Heyo! My name is Rachel O’Malley and I am currently a sophomore studying elementary education. I absolutely love the McKay School of Education because my professors and fellow students are amazing! It is so wonderful growing in our passion for learning and teaching together.
I grew up in Lake Stevens, Washington and I absolutely adore the mountains. I am the second oldest of five children and we love to goof off when spending time together. I wanted to go to BYU so that I could enjoy the beauty of Utah, receive an amazing education, and be in a spiritually strengthening environment. Growing up I always considered the possibility of becoming a teacher but it wasn’t until I spent a few years tutoring that I discovered my love of working with children and teaching.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my friends. Whether I am hiking, skiing, running, paddleboarding or painting, I love to be outside. I love to travel and meet new people. Last semester I went on a BYU study abroad all throughout Europe and it was amazing.
In my life, some of the most meaningful experiences have come from serving others. I have discovered that teaching is one of the greatest forms of service, as it allows you to help students find their light and recognize their divine potential. Whether it’s assisting a child in overcoming an obstacle or encouraging a student, I have witnessed how education can transform lives. This understanding fuels my passion for becoming a teacher.
I am so happy to be an Ambassador for elementary education and I would love to help others find their excitement for teaching!
