TED Talks are amazing ways to learn from others' experiences.
Here are some of our favorite TED Talks on education!
Molly Wright: How Every Child Can Thrive by Five
I love how simple yet powerful this TED Talk is. Cute 7-year-old Molly Wright discusses the importance of the first five years of a child's life. She emphasizes the importance of children's play and connection with adults. She explains how a game of "peek-a-boo" can change the world and help set children up for success in the future because the best way for young children to learn is through play.
“Why is Physical Education a Student's Most Important Subject?” by William Simon Jr.
My favorite quote from the TED talk is, “If a student has trouble with math, maybe they won’t be budgeters. If a student has trouble confusing an adjective with an adverb, maybe they won’t be a great author. Or maybe if they don’t understand the workings of the cell that won’t be a good biologist. But if a student doesn’t understand the principles of health and fitness they risk chronic disease and an early death. ” I like this quote so much because it highlights how important it is for students to learn healthy physical habits now.
"Every Kid Needs a Champion," by Rita Pierson
It's our job as educators to build strong relationships with our students and create a safe space where they can learn.
I love how she takes her experiences in a classroom and shares how important the relationship with the students is without using curriculums or materials. I loved the quote, "Students won't learn from a teacher they don't like."
"The Danger Of A Single Story" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Adichie explores the different experiences our students may have because of their different backgrounds. As an educator, it is pertinent to be careful of the assumptions you make about your students and to not let differences influence your teaching.
