Our Favorite Conference Talks about Education

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds a semi-annual worldwide church meeting called General Conference. This is where leaders of the Church give inspirational messages all centered around Jesus Christ. Here are some of our favorite talks about education. Click HERE to read more Confernce talks.

God Loves All His Children by Gregorio E. Casillas (October 2024)

"This is my favorite conference talk about teaching. While this talk isn't explicitly about teaching, he shares ideas that closely relate to it. Elder Casillas shares a story about visiting a sick woman and her son and it taught me how important it is to understand individual needs and offer kindness and support. As a teacher, I can use this to remember to understand each of my student's needs and try to teach in a way that will be most beneficial." -Kamora

What Is a Teacher? by Paul H. Dunn (October 1971)

"I loved this talk from 1971 because it talks about lessons he learned and never forgot, but also talks about 11 things that teachers are. I loved this perspective of what a teacher is first from a student's perspective, then from the teacher's perspective. I especially love the quote, 'The teacher is a prophet. He lays the foundation of tomorrow. ... The teacher is a believer. He has an abiding faith in God...' I love how these really encompass what a teacher is and includes the example of the master teacher who is Christ." -Dixion

"Behold Your Little Ones" by Gordon B. Hinkley (October 1978)

"I love this talk because it speaks of the potential children have and the influence the adults in their lives can have on whether they meet that potential." -Sarah

Becoming More in Christ: The Parable of the Slope by Clark G. Gilbert (October 2021)

"I love this General Conference by Clark G. Gilbert. He talks about how it doesn't matter where you start your journey but where are headed. This is a cool perspective to have with future students as we have no control over their prior knowledge but can help them learn and develop. Gilbert also talks about how we all have divine potential because we are sons and daughters of God with infinite worth." -Megan
